Installer
measures and marks shelter height on person (mark on clothing).
Drive
support stake in ground ½ the shelter diameter distance (eg.
10 cm diameter = 5 cm distance) from the seedling, ensuring that the
above ground length is equal to, or greater than, the shelter height
as marked off in Step 1.
Step

Step

Reach
into planter bag and remove one nested shelter. Holding one end (rim),
allow the other end to unravel to the ground.
Extend
shelter and move it down over seedling to roughly the midpoint then
release the lower rim while still holding the upper rim near the top
of the stake.
Step

Step
6
Attach
upper friction-grip clip to a point at or near to the top of stake
that is equal to the height of the shelter. Note:
The shelters are reversible: either rim can go on top.
Attach
lower rim on stake adjacent to the midpoint of the seedling. Note:
the lower rim must be pointed downward to allow friction-grip to fit
around stake.
Step

The
End Result
Placing
one thumb on the rim (directly opposite the inside of the stake) and
the other thumb on the "post" of the friction-grip clip
(as such, thumbs would be on the front and side of stake respectively),
push down keeping arms straight and using body weight to drive lower
rim right down firm to the ground.
A
properly installed/tensioned Freegro® tree shelter will have
both top and bottom rims perpendicular to the stake (and parallel
to each other). The friction grip clip hooks should be positioned
at the centre of the supporting stake's back side. As such all sides
of the clip will be fitting tightly against the stake. Avoid over
and under tensioning.
If
many shelters are to be installed per day, then it is recommended
to use a metal bar (provided) that is held by both hands and positioned
so that it catches the inside of the lower rim adjacent to the stake.
After positioning it as such, slide the bar downwards (keeping it
against the stake) until the lower rim is firmly on the ground. This
method creates less hand strain/fatigue.
